first cited: [last-winter#7]

Swanhall is a mountain duchy of the Velfald Regency, once a trade hub for weapons and armor, now the first territory the Winter Elves conquered and the one they have held longest. [last-winter#7 · heralds-b#178]

Overview

Swanhall lies in a mountainous region rich in precious metals and gems; its capital, also called Swanhall, is a well-fortified city set in the valleys, guarded by imposing citadels that command the mountain passes. [heralds-b#150] Under House Ironwing the duchy grew into a major trade centre for fine weapons and armor, drawing merchants and adventurers from across the realm to seek out its craftsmanship. [heralds-b#150] Within Velfald, Swanhall held a status comparable to Moonward, the regency's other great duchy. [heralds-b#178]

History

Swanhall was the first duchy to fall to the Winter Elves, invaded three to four years before the present day, and it has remained fully occupied ever since. [heralds-b#150 · heralds-b#178] Its Duke, Lord Cedric Ironwing of House Ironwing, was taken into custody during the conquest and remains held. [heralds-b#178] The duchy's fall is attributed entirely to Winter Elf military conquest; despite its mines running deep into the mountains, it has no connection to the serpentborn or Worm God threat tied to Snakecross and Baroness Bella Worthmore, which the two arcs keep wholly separate. [heralds-b#152 · heralds-b#153]

Power and politics

Swanhall's mines, foundries, and fortresses — once the foundation of its wealth — are now entirely in Winter Elf hands, a loss judged a major strategic blow to the Aenarch Empire. [heralds-b#150 · heralds-b#151]
