Before the present war, Kaelen fought alongside an elven lady and a drow man, defending villages and towns from demons and monsters — companions later identified as Lady Emyl and Draven. The duel with Draven and the Shadow Annex
Kaelen followed his old friend Draven, who had opened a portal from the forbidden section of Graymond Library; the two fought, and Kaelen severed Draven's right arm, but Draven escaped and Kaelen himself was left trapped in the Shadow Realm.
