Inkveil is not an organization or entity that exists within the world of Aenarch; it is an out-of-character codename that EKREM, the game master, gave to his AI creative assistant, to be used as a GM-side tool for simulating enemy logic and narrating from behind the scenes. [heralds-b#32 · heralds-b#37]
Origin
The name first appears when EKREM asked the assistant to simulate the reasoning of a covert assassination squad sent to kill Elnaril of the Whitegale line, and told the assistant that "Inkveil" was its own identity for that purpose — not the name of the in-world killers. [heralds-b#32] EKREM later confirmed this explicitly: Inkveil is only his role for the assistant, a GM-side operative intelligence tool, and not the name of the assassins themselves, who remained otherwise unnamed. [heralds-b#36 · heralds-b#37]
As a persona
On a separate occasion, EKREM again named the assistant's identity Inkveil, describing it as "the shadow behind the scenes, keeper of secrets and lore," and the assistant accepted the name. [last-winter#854 · last-winter#855]
Unconfirmed ideas
The source conversations contain proposals for Inkveil that the campaign owner never confirmed. They are collected on Idea:Inkveil so they cannot be mistaken for canon.
