Remains are undead that grow from the organs and soft tissue of the dead, carrying a collective will of their own and spreading tumorous infection to any living creature they touch. [heralds-a#17 · heralds-a#51]
Overview
When an undead among the dead does not simply stay dead, it becomes a Remains: something that resembles the burst, tumorous innards of a body, yet still haunts, hides, and hunts the living. [heralds-a#17] Contact spreads the tumours it carries to any creature it strikes. [heralds-a#17] Most Remains bodies are mindless, but the most developed ones — hulking masses of innards and tumours — are intelligent and powerful. [heralds-a#17]
Composition and infection
Remains are formed from the organs and some of the soft tissue of the dead, and hold a will of their own in common rather than individually. [heralds-a#51] Striking a victim spreads a disease that grows into internal tumours; over time the host loses their own mind, and the tumorous organs kill the host and burst outward. [heralds-a#51] An infected corpse that is not purified threatens to produce a new Remain Stalker. [heralds-a#114]
Behavior
Remains hunt in darkness and are vulnerable to sunlight — stealthy, bursting undead. [heralds-a#51]
The Reminder's network
During the Deadreach arc, the Remains were bound into a colony-mind network centered on Reminder. [heralds-a#147 · heralds-a#149] When the Reminder was killed, the network's central mind broke: the Hulks scattered and the remaining Remains went into hiding. [heralds-a#146 · heralds-a#147 · heralds-a#149]
In play
Pell Voss was struck and infected with Remains tumours; the wound was sealed off rather than left to run its course. [heralds-a#114]

Unconfirmed ideas
The source conversations contain proposals for Remains that the campaign owner never confirmed. They are collected on Idea:Remains so they cannot be mistaken for canon.
