The Shadow Annex is a hidden space between worlds, reached through a passage beneath Graymond Library. [heralds-a#3]
Overview
Beneath Graymond Library lies a hidden passage toward the Shadow Realm; the Shadow Annex is the "in-between" space at the heart of it, set apart from the story's ongoing world rather than inside it. [heralds-a#3 · heralds-a#4]
In a later clarification, EKREM stated as settled fact that the Shadow Annex has no ties to Mind or Time — it is simply "somewhere between," and opening a way into it requires certain abilities. [heralds-b#277] Leaving requires those same abilities: anyone stranded inside is not lost forever, but escaping unaided could take years. [heralds-b#277]
History
Kaelen became trapped in the Shadow Annex while pursuing his old companion Draven beneath Graymond Library. [heralds-a#3] By the time this rescue was reported complete, Kaelen had been freed and was in Moonward. [heralds-a#5]

Unconfirmed ideas
The source conversations contain proposals for Shadow Annex that the campaign owner never confirmed. They are collected on Idea:Shadow Annex so they cannot be mistaken for canon.
