Smokers are undead created when Naevys Duskbloom's Modified Cloudkill Spell killed the defenders of Rosereach and raised them as zombies, with the spell itself still trapped inside each of them. ^{[heralds-a#51]}

Overview

A Smoker's body carries the Modified Cloudkill Spell that killed it, rather than being an ordinary reanimated corpse; the spell that felled most of the city's defenders is the same one that raised them. ^{[heralds-a#51]} They are found in and around Deadreach, the city formerly known as Rosereach; among them, a creature called The Catalyst is described as the most monstrous version of the type. ^{[heralds-a#103]}

In play

When the Heralds of the Cycle party set foot on Rosereach's soil after entering the city through its port, the land's old protective magic charmed two of them; the Smokers did not attack the charmed party members, while the rest of the party stayed alert, though no fighting broke out between them. ^{[heralds-a#107]}

After the Reminder was slain later in the Deadreach arc, what became of the Smokers was left open — the game master stated plainly that it was not known. ^{[heralds-a#146]}
