The Regent of Velfald is the symbol of imperial order in the region. ^{[heralds-b#182]} The Regent also takes part in the marriage politics of the counties: he proposed a noble of Altia, the neighbouring regency, as a match for Astrid Frostweave, against her own family's preference for the Moonward Duke's son. ^{[heralds-b#166]}

The Winter War

To break the Empire's centralized power in the region, the Winter Elves must first destroy the Regent's legitimacy. ^{[heralds-b#182]} Because of this, the Regent is the target rather than the battlefield: if Timbermire falls, the Winter Elves will have proved that the Regent cannot defend his people. ^{[heralds-b#182 · heralds-b#183]}
