The Elkborn are an antlered, cold-hardened people who once ruled the northern land now called Velfald, and who today are believed reduced to a single survivor. ^{[heralds-b#406 · heralds-b#407]}

The Elkborn are the people the the Empire fears most: they cannot be frightened, endure cold with unbroken courage, and are stubborn, ever-fighting people. ^{[heralds-b#406 · heralds-b#407]} They ruled their land not through kings but through Wardens, and were known as unforgiving yet just, holding memory itself sacred. ^{[heralds-b#432 · heralds-b#433]} They bear deer-like, antlered features; Empress Laerel Reghart belongs to this people. ^{[last-winter#510 · last-winter#512]}
