first cited: [heralds-a#3]

Scuto is a monk of the Heralds of the Cycle who has chosen the power of death over the power of life, a choice that opened him to visions of the Rakshasa Virsakha and set him on a path his own master no longer believes he can be pulled back from. [heralds-b#19 · heralds-b#378]

Overview

Scuto is a monk and member of the party. [heralds-a#146] He is alive. [owner-form-2026-09-17] By choosing the way of death and chi-stealing power over life, he opened a channel that lets the Rakshasa Virsakha reach him — first through visions, and later through visitations in his dreams. [heralds-b#19 · heralds-b#27]

Training and the Temple of the Red Seal

Scuto trained under the Couatl who guards the Temple of the Red Seal, but has since turned to the path of death and chi-stealing power and is being drawn toward corruption by the Rakshasa's whispers. [heralds-b#246 · heralds-b#378] His former master now regards him as someone who can no longer be saved. [heralds-b#378] He can fall under the Rakshasa's influence, wields death-chi, and was tested within the Temple of the Red Seal itself. [heralds-b#379 · heralds-b#382 · heralds-b#384] His bond to death-chi and to the Rakshasa's whispers is singular enough that the temple and its murals address him directly. [heralds-b#387 · heralds-b#393]

His master, in turn, was originally a Couatl who cannot speak because of a vow; it keeps watch at the temple gate in the form of a Red Monk, and reverts to its Couatl form and teleports to the seal if brought to 0 hit points. [heralds-a#3]

Deadreach

During the Deadreach arc, Scuto lost part of his soul and came close to losing himself entirely, leaving his memories and emotions diminished. [heralds-a#146 · heralds-a#149] He did not die, but he did not come out of it "whole" either. [heralds-a#149]

Background

Scuto is from Scuto's Village, and has a missing brother who went to follow the cracks. [heralds-b#446]

In play

Godwin White cannot fully model Scuto as a variable. [heralds-b#437]

Crowcoin has been given a standing order to gather information about him, for reasons he keeps from the rest of the party. [heralds-b#436]
