On the world map: this place exists in the map data as realm Velfald.
Velfald is a Regency of the Aenarch Empire, containing the duchies of Swanhall and Moonward and the counties of Iceverf and Everwood. [last-winter#7 · last-winter#21 · last-winter#230] Its name comes from German roots and means "Slain Realm" or "Slain Field." [heralds-b#432]
Overview
Before it bore that name, the land was ruled by the Elkborn, a sturdy people of endless winter — stubborn and just, quick neither to forgive nor to forget. [heralds-b#432] Velfald's central authority has since weakened and is riddled with cracks, and its capital, Timbermire, has fallen. [heralds-a#3]
The regency holds two influential duchies, Swanhall and Moonward, and the county of Iceverf, whose count also rules the town of Sunbell and whose road to the capital is an important route. [last-winter#7 · last-winter#21] In the south lies the County of Everwood, seated at Wynthorne, which keeps diplomatic ties with the regency's Senate. [last-winter#230 · last-winter#232]
History
House Ursa, a Winter Elf noble family from the island of Oavenia, leads the Winter War Campaign against Velfald and has invaded and claimed a third of its lands. [last-winter#643] Velfald is governed by a Regent. [last-winter#785 · last-winter#789]
Power and politics
Moonward wants to be Velfald's protector and refuses to bend the knee to the Winter Elves, while staying out of the Winter Elves' push to take Timbermire; it is expected to remain the one safe land in the regency should Timbermire and Iceverf fall. [heralds-b#182 · heralds-a#3] Lady Emyl, an Eladrin of Spring, has led the Spring Elves within Velfald for five hundred years and is the only elven leader in the regency still holding her community together. [heralds-b#154] The merchant house Golden Leaf Company runs its main operation out of Snakecross and serves flowers to the whole regency. [last-winter#318]
