GM canon

The Reminder, also called The Reaching Death, is the Gargantuan undead colony-mind that formed beneath Deadreach from the land's own mind-magic, its dead, and its memories, and that commanded the Remains until the party killed it at the climax of the Deadreach arc. [heralds-a#75 · heralds-a#149]

Overview

Survivors sheltering in the tunnels beneath the ruined city spoke of a very high-level boss among the Remains: the Reminder. [heralds-a#103] Outside the Vault of the First Petal, the Reminder is also the corrupted form of the Flower Goddess, reaching for the sealed gate with its vines in an attempt to get inside. [heralds-a#124] It was conceived as a Gargantuan undead creature made from the mind-magic soaked into the land together with the Remains and the memories of the ancient city; every Remain in Deadreach instinctively obeyed it, and its death was meant to sever that link. [heralds-a#75 · heralds-a#76]

Nature and powers

The Reminder is built from gathered organs, branches, and eyes bound together by mind-magic, and it served as Deadreach's sewer boss; the party already knew, before facing it directly, that it was trying to reach the Vault. [heralds-a#125 · heralds-a#128] When the party set foot on Rosereach's soil, the land's old protective magic charmed two of them; the charmed members stayed calm and the Smokers left them alone, while the party members who succeeded on their Wisdom saving throw saw the Reminder's eyes. [heralds-a#107] That charm ties the affected characters to the Reminder, which opens a mind-link between the charmed Smokers and the people of the city so that they can understand one another. [heralds-a#107] Once the link was made the Reminder did not act rashly; it was also aware that other party members remained unconnected to it. [heralds-a#107]

Origins

It is established that the Reminder is the corrupted form of the Flower Goddess and that it was shaped by the land's mind-magic together with the Remains and the memories of the ancient city. [heralds-a#124 · heralds-a#75]

Needs a decision: How exactly the city's golden First Petal became the Reminder — and how much Naevys's ritual, the Remains' organ-gathering, House Rosamendus's memory legacy, and a smuggled root-graft each contributed — was left undecided.[heralds-a#127 · heralds-a#128]

The Deadreach arc and death

At the climax of the Deadreach arc, the party fought through the Reminder's roots while Walking Hulks attacked the Vault of the First Petal from outside, reached the Reminder itself, and killed it. [heralds-a#149] With its death the Remains' central mind broke: the Walking Hulks scattered and the Remain Stalkers withdrew into the dark; the Remains lost their coordination but were not entirely destroyed. [heralds-a#147 · heralds-a#149] Smokers were not the Reminder's direct offspring — they arose separately from Naevys's modified cloudkill — so its death did not break their minds, only left their old chain of command without direction.
