Ten Thousand Breath is a monastic path built on the mastery of breath and chi, originally a discipline of inner balance that later corrupted into a practice of forcibly taking breath from others. [heralds-b#392 · heralds-b#393]
Origins
In its original form, the path's monks drew their own breath back into themselves rather than releasing it outward, and their practice held no violence, no god, and no victory — only balance. [heralds-b#393] An early teaching tied to the path holds that breath given away makes the world heavier, while breath held lets a person remember themselves. [heralds-b#392 · heralds-b#393]
Corruption
The path began to break when a figure started forcibly drawing breath from others' chests instead of reclaiming their own, and as they did, their eyes darkened. [heralds-b#393] What had been a discipline of balance turned, in this telling, into what is described as a "harvest." [heralds-b#392 · heralds-b#393]
