Lesser Smoker is the most common kind of undead roaming the streets of Deadreach, its body filled with corrupted necromantic vapor — a fragment of the catastrophic Cloudkill Ritual that destroyed the County of Rosereach. ^{[heralds-a#93]}

Appearance

A Lesser Smoker looks like a corpse inflated from within, its jaw hanging permanently open. ^{[heralds-a#93]} Thin green smoke leaks constantly from its throat and eye sockets, and its cracked rib cage glows faintly from the pressure building up inside it. ^{[heralds-a#93]} When it exhales, the smoke inside its body shifts like a storm cloud trying to escape. ^{[heralds-a#93]}

Nature and behavior

Lesser Smokers are not intelligent, but their corrupted bodies instinctively move toward living creatures, wandering the streets of Deadreach in small groups and following noise or movement. ^{[heralds-a#93]} Their lungs wheeze constantly like broken bellows, and when too much pressure builds up inside them, they violently cough up bursts of toxic gas. ^{[heralds-a#93]} They tend to cluster together without meaning to, which is dangerous: when a Lesser Smoker dies its chest ruptures and releases a cloud of poison gas, and if another one dies nearby soon after, that cloud grows even larger, so groups of them can trigger chain-reaction gas bursts. ^{[heralds-a#93]}
