Grizzleflame (also called Grizzle or Grizzleflare) is an elf warlord who leads a goblin warband and grew from the party's first real opponent into a lasting enemy of Elnaril and the Summer Elves. [heralds-a#7 · heralds-b#258]
Overview
Grizzleflame started as a lesser threat — a mini-boss the party could handle — before becoming steadily more dangerous. [heralds-a#7] He struck a pact with the Pact Maker Aaron and gave up his soul to him, so that he could erase from the map the elves he blamed for killing him and his people. [heralds-a#7] He was once defeated by elves in the past, but not destroyed. [heralds-b#258]
The attack on the migrating elves
Once he had this power, Grizzleflame attacked Summer Elves migrating south and killed the childhood friend of Elnaril, one of the party's own. [heralds-a#7]
Hunted by the party
The party destroyed Grizzleflame's entire band; close to seventy goblins of his people were killed, and Grizzleflame himself fled. [heralds-a#11] He escaped the party three times, and after the third escape Aaron gave him the Cold Fire (Blue Flame) — a cold blue flame he still carries. [heralds-a#11] Since then he has hunted elves, seeking revenge on "Broodkiller" — the name goblins gave Elnaril for killing many of their people in the past. [heralds-a#11 · heralds-a#13]
Grizzleflame's present plan regarding Elnaril goes beyond open revenge.

Pact and powers
Grizzleflame's pact was made with Aaron, the Pact Maker, who is a servant of the archdevil Levistus and deals in his name; Aaron and Levistus are not the same being. [owner-form-2026-09-17] Some accounts name Levistus himself as the other party to the bargain; the campaign owner has ruled that the pact-maker is Aaron. [heralds-b#257 · owner-form-2026-09-17] Through the pact Grizzleflame now carries both fire and ice, making him a formidable opponent. [heralds-b#257 · heralds-b#258] In one account he is named the "Frostflame Warlord." [heralds-b#262]
The ambush on the road to Moonward
Grizzleflame gathered a number of goblins to his cause, using most of them only as tools. [heralds-b#257] His plan is to hide them under the snow with flammable material and ambush a column of elves heading toward Moonward, killing as many as he can; for the goblins it is a suicide mission. [heralds-b#257] After the ambush he means to hunt down any elves who escape. [heralds-b#257] Leon, whose sister Grizzleflame burned alive, is also expected to strike at him amid the chaos of the ambush. [heralds-b#259]
