Elnaril is an elf and field leader of the party known as the Heralds of the Cycle [heralds-b#27 · heralds-b#446], called the Broodkiller by the goblins for killing many of their people in the past. [heralds-a#13 · heralds-a#11] He is one of the party's members and is alive. [owner-form-2026-09-17]

Overview

Elnaril does not currently seek to kill goblins; he earned the Broodkiller name through actions he took in the past, not through any present campaign against them. [heralds-a#15] Long ago, his childhood friend was killed by Grizzleflame, who became his enemy from that day on. [heralds-a#7]

The Broodkiller name

While the party hunted Grizzleflame down after he escaped them three times, close to seventy goblins of his following were killed; the goblins fixed that killing on Elnaril's name and now call him the Broodkiller. [heralds-a#11 · heralds-a#13]

Witness of Rosereach

Elnaril was present at Rosereach's gates on the day the enemy first stood before the city, and years later returned to confront Naevys Duskbloom with that memory. [heralds-a#118 · heralds-a#120 · heralds-a#121] Naevys regards him as a witness to that day and to the choices she made then; on learning that his group had reached the city, she invited them to her tower. [heralds-a#119 · heralds-a#120] He traveled to the tower together with Lucerion. Both had died and returned to life at some point in the past — a fact Naevys does not know. [heralds-a#120] Before the siege, Autumn Elves once served at a post Elnaril protected; the sources do not say what he protected there. When ritual-charmed party members later returned to that place, the Autumn Elves let them through. [heralds-a#107]

The fall of Deadreach

In the same battle where the Reminder was slain beneath the city, Elnaril shattered his own necklace. [heralds-a#146] The power inside him did not destroy him. Instead he turned into what the record calls a "snowy dread," and released the cold, high-realm air he carried inside rather than let it consume him. [heralds-a#146 · heralds-a#149] That cold did not destroy Deadreach — it settled over the city as a standing cold cloud instead. [heralds-a#146 · heralds-a#147]

In play

At Snake Cross, when Bella Worthmore reached Elnaril by magic, she attempted to invade his mind; he answered her that all the blood of Rosereach was in her hands, and that his fate would not be decided by a Winter Elf. [heralds-b#446] In an artificial tunnel north of Snake Cross, Elnaril judged the cut marks in the stone to be smooth, evenly spaced, and repeating, with no trace of magic in them. [heralds-b#446] In the fight against a six-armed creature during that same expedition, Elnaril was hit hard enough that, without the Saint's holy light, the mission would have ended in failure. [heralds-b#446]

A separate danger is closing in on Elnaril in present-day Rosereach.

Players, stop here. What is hidden behind this point is game-master material. The full detail is on GM:Elnaril.

Unconfirmed ideas

The source conversations contain proposals for Elnaril that the campaign owner never confirmed. They are collected on Idea:Elnaril so they cannot be mistaken for canon.
