GM canon
first cited: [heralds-a#3]

Timeline of Aenarch gathers the events whose date or position in the sequence the sources actually state, from the deep past to the present of the two campaigns. [heralds-a#5 · last-winter#643]

Editorial note: the sources almost never give a calendar year. Where a source gives a relative distance in time ("decades ago", "three to four years ago") it is reproduced here; where it gives only an order, the event stands in that order; where it gives neither, the event is listed under Undated events. No year has been supplied that a source does not give.

The distant past

  • The ruin of Sarlona — The Rakshasa's harvest of breath collapsed the cities of the continent of Sarlona, burned its temples and drove its monks into flight as shadows. [heralds-b#393]
  • The sealing of the Rakshasa — When it became clear that the Rakshasa could not be killed, a Couatl sealed it behind the Red Seal as a point of pressure instead of destroying it. [heralds-b#393]
  • The final assault on the third Worm God — Imperial legionaries, priests of Aenism and the Serpentkin fought their last battle beneath Snakepass against the Last Worm God, and each of them lost in a different way: the god could not be slain and was sealed half-digested by reality itself. [heralds-a#39 · heralds-a#40]
  • The fall of Crescent City — The expanding Empire besieged Crescent City, today's Moonward; Commander Tarik N'dalu defended it to the last, the city fell and he died with it. [last-winter#507 · last-winter#508]
  • The killing of the leader of the Dark Court — In the Fae realm the head of the Dark Court was killed, and the killing turned every dark elf into a grey elf, Draven among them. [last-winter#382]
  • The opening of the Petal Gate — Dark elves deceived the Petal Gate into opening with the blood or the memory of a member of House Rosamendus and stole the First Petal from within, which is why the gate now asks for a freely given memory and a price of return rather than bloodline alone. [heralds-a#125 · heralds-a#127]

Before the Winter War

  • The theft of the First Petal — Decades ago a dark elf raised by Bella Worthmore was brought into the vault by thieves who knew the underground tunnels and cut the flower, but was driven off by the Roseguard and escaped with nothing more than a fragment of the root. [heralds-a#128]
  • House White's treason against the regency — The main branch of House White conspired to seize the regency in the Velfald region, and the betrayal stained the family's name. [last-winter#45]
  • The execution of Tevelyn MoonspeakerTevelyn Moonspeaker tried to stop the Frost Prince's forces from destroying what remained of the Queen of Fall's lands, failed to prevent the slaughter and was killed with great cruelty while Veladrin Frostpeak watched. [heralds-a#81]
  • The exile and choosing of the Blind Knight — A knight lost his eyes and was crippled in a political intrigue, was sent into exile, went on living as a hedge knight and was at last chosen by the Goddess Knightess. [heralds-a#95]
  • The cleansing of the gnoll cults in Altia — The blind knight rode against the gnoll cults of Yeenoghu in Altia and destroyed them. [heralds-a#95]
  • The death of the late Count of Iceverf — Count Alaric Frostweave died in an unlucky accident during a diplomatic visit to a neighbouring kingdom, and the title passed to his daughter Astrid. [last-winter#99]

Needs a decision: How the late Count of Iceverf died is not settled: one account has Count Alaric Frostweave killed by an accident on a diplomatic visit, another has him set out on a summons from Altia and die on the road of an unclear cause, and a third has the count simply vanish during the Rosereach evacuation, after which his young daughter became regent.[last-winter#99 · heralds-b#166]

  • Grizzleflame's pact and his massacre of the elves — After giving his soul to the pact maker Aaron and gaining power by it, Grizzleflame fell upon the elves migrating south and killed Elnaril's childhood friend, after which the elves withdrew to safe ground. [heralds-a#7]

  • Aaron's gift of cold fire — Immediately after Grizzleflame's third escape his flames turned blue, because Aaron had given him the cold fire. [heralds-a#11]
  • The Summer Elves' attempt to break the winter — With no balefire left to them, the Summer Elves tried to break the winter by burning the forests, used goblins, hobgoblins and goblinoids for it, and resolved to take the unquenched fire of an old dwarven temple in the region. [heralds-a#11]

Needs a decision: Which member of House Ursa fell at the Winds of Emberfrost is not settled: one account names Silvan Ursa, another names Thalen Ursa, described as the youngest child of Frelya Ursa.[last-winter#643 · last-winter#785]
